Faded Blog Square
I get asked about this quite a lot, and it's easy to do so I thought I'd add it :)
1. Open up the image you want to add a blog square to, it should be layout-sized but for this example I'm using a small image of Halle Berry.
2. Copy your image and paste 'as a new image'. Then use
, to cut out the part of the image you want to fade. See how mine below has the grey lines towards the bottom? Then go to Image > Crop, or double click
inside your square/rectangle.

3. Now use the floodfill bucket to make the bit you just cropped either black or white. Then copy it, and paste onto your original image, where you want your blog square to be.

4. Now go to Layers > Properties, and change the 'Opacity' to anyway between 30-50 and click 'Ok'. Then just add text etc. and you're finished! :)
